Fornost
the ruined northern capital of the old kingdom of Arnor
The City
Fornost (Fornost Erain, ‘the North-fortress of the kings’) was the great northern capital of Arnor, the seat of the kings of the North before the sundering of the realm; its halls and its roads were the memory of the elder kingdom.
The Fall
When the Witch-king of Angmar made war upon the North, Fornost fell and was overthrown, and its people were destroyed with the kingdom; the ruined city became a place of lingering dread, and only the Rangers of the North dared walk among its stones.
