The Rangers of the North were the stern and secret remnants of the Dúnedain of Arnor — the heirs of Elendil who, having lost kingdom and power, took up the lonely watch of Eriador against the encroaching Shadow.
Deeds
They prowled the wilds, drove the trolls and orcs from the roads, and were the unseen shield of the Shire; their Chieftain Aragorn came at the last to the King’s seat, and his Rangers followed him to the war and to the reuniting of the Two Kingdoms.
