Bree
the village of Men and hobbits upon the Road to the East
The Village
Bree was an old village of the Bree-land, where Men and hobbits lived together in peace; at its heart stood the Prancing Pony, the famous inn kept by Barliman Butterbur, whose doors were open to the great Road.
The Meeting
At the Prancing Pony the Ring slipped from Frodo’s finger in a song, and the mysterious Strider (Aragorn) became the guide of the four hobbits; from Bree they went northward by the Midgewater and the Weather Hills, dogged and driven by the hunters of the Dark.
