Weathertop
Amon Sûl; the Hill of the Wind, the tower of the North-kingdom
The Hill
Weathertop (Amon Sûl) was the high bare hill of the Weather Hills, crowned by the ruined tower of the North-kingdom where a palantír had once been kept. Here the four hobbits met with the Black Riders, and on its crown stood the Rangers’ warning fire.
The Attack
As darkness fell the Nazgûl took the hill; there the chief of the Ringwraiths drew his blade and stabbed Frodo, wounding him with the Morgul-knife, until Aragorn drove them off with brands of fire — a trick that the watchers of the tower had long known — and the wounded Frodo was borne onward toward Rivendell.
