The Ringwraiths
the Nazgûl; the Nine; the slaves of the Nine Rings and Sauron's captains
The Kind
The Ringwraiths were the nine kings of Men to whom Sauron gave Rings of Power in the Second Age; he who held the Nine fell under the dominion of the One Ring, and they became his greatest servants — wraiths of shadow and dread, the Nazgûl, whose voices pierced the heart.
Deeds and End
In the War of the Ring they hunted the Ring-bearing hobbit with the Morgul-knives, broke the towers of the North (Angmar) and of the ruin it wrought, led the doom of Gondor (Minas Morgul), and were swept from the sky at the Black Gate when the Eagles came; the chief of them fell by Éowyn, and with the Ruling Ring’s destruction their darkness was undone.
