The Siege

The Siege of Minas Tirith was the terrible investment of the City of the Guard in the spring of 3019: the armies of Mordor and the Haradrim, with the engines of war and the fire-spewing beasts, ringed the Rammas Echor and battered the Gates, while the defenders waited worn and outnumbered under the shadow.

The Relief

In the darkest hour the Rohirrim came up from the north and the siege broke into the great battle of the Pelennor; the black ships of the Corsairs turned to the aid of Aragorn, and the City was freed — though the palantír-watch and the Steward’s own despair darkened the keeping of the walls.
