Lineage

Pippin was the youngest of the four hobbits of the Fellowship of the Ring, a son of the Tooks and cousin of Frodo Baggins; with Merry he set out with his master Frodo from the Shire and was caught up in the great Quest.

The Quest

  • Captured with Merry by the Orcs of Isengard after the breaking of the Fellowship, Pippin escaped with Merry into Fangorn, was rescued by the Ents and beside Treebeard saw the ruin of Isengard; riding thereafter with Gandalf, he came at last to Gondor.

Gondor and the Palantír

  • In Minas Tirith Pippin entered the service of Denethor, looked unwittingly into the Palantír of Orthanc, and was rescued from the pyre of Denethor by Gandalf in the attack on the city.

End

He returned with the others for the Scouring of the Shire and fought at the Battle of Bywater, and in later years he was the Thain of the Shire, friend and one-time fellow-rider with Merry into the old lands.
