Merry

Meriadoc Brandybuck; the Master of Buckland

Name and Story

Merry (Meriadoc Brandybuck) was a hobbit of the Shire, of the great family of Buckland — and with Pippin the companion of the Ring-bearers’ cousins… he was one of the Fellowship, the friend of Frodo’s road, who rode in the service of Rohan.

  • Captured in the great march, Merry came at last to Rohan and entered the war beside Éowyn; in the battle of the Pelennor Fields, “no living man am I” was answered by the hobbit’s sword as Éowyn slew the Witch-king, and Merry’s blade sundered the curse of the Nazgûl’s knee.
  • Wounded by the Black Breath, he was healed by Aragorn the Healer; he returned to the Shire as the Master of Buckland, and was remembered in the Westmarch as a friend of the kings.
