Name and Story
The Witch-king of Angmar was the foremost of the The Ringwraiths, the first of the Nine kings of Men whom Sauron ensnared and who became his wraiths. Long ago he destroyed the North-kingdom of Arnor; in the War of the Ring he was the captain of the Black Host of Mordor, the Lord of Morgul beyond the Ephel Dúath.
The Prophecy and the Fall
No man might slay him, said the ancient words — yet at the Pelennor he was undone by the weapon of Merry (which broke the spell of his knee) and the sword of Éowyn: “I am no living man, and you will look upon me” she answered, and so the Witch-king of Angmar fell.
Enemy of the Ring
He sought Frodo with the Morgul-knife at Weathertop, and his wound of the Black Breath marked the bearer for its master.
