The Ferry

Bucklebury Ferry was the wooden, rope-pulled ferry that crossed the Brandywine at Bucklebury, the old way of the Buckland folk; its keeper rowed the travellers and the wanderers across the water.

In the Flight

In the flight from the Shire the hobbits came to the ferry and crossed the Brandywine, leaving the Black Riders behind the river and entering the Old Forest that lay beyond; and so the road led on to the wilderness and to Bree.
