The Last Bridge
the stone bridge over the Hoarwell on the old road
The Bridge
The Last Bridge was the old stone span on the East Road where it crossed the grey Hoarwell (Mitheithel) in the wilds — the last of the works of the North-kingdom’s great roads, beyond which the way wound under the eaves of the Trollshaws.
In the Flight
The hunters and the hunted crossed at this ford: the Nazgûl went over the bridge eastward, and the hobbits and their guide lay hidden and watched the shadow pass, before the road carried them on to the valley of Rivendell.
