Name and Story
Rivendell (Imladris) was the hidden valley where Elrond kept the Last Homely House east of the Sea — a refuge of peace and ancient song under the Misty Mountains, where the Ring of Air was guarded and the lore of the Elder Days was preserved.
The Quest and the Council
It sheltered the Company on the Quest of Erebor (where the map and the moon-runes were read), and in the War of the Ring was the seat of the The Council of Elrond, where the Company of the Ring was chosen; from its gates Frodo departed on the road to Mordor.
