The Map
Thrór’s Map was the ancient map of the Lonely Mountain and its dales, marked with the secret door of the hidden way and written over with the moon-letters that in the proper light revealed the riddle of the opening. It passed from Thrór’s heir Thráin to Gandalf in the dungeons of Dol Guldur, and was brought at last to the Quest and read in Rivendell beneath the autumn moon.
The Key
With it came the key of the hidden door; without the map and the key the Quest could never have passed the white stone of the Mountain’s secret, and the riddle of the runes set the whole company upon the road.
