The Woods
The Trollshaws were the dark and broken woodlands east of the Last Bridge on the road to Rivendell, dangerous for the Stone-trolls that dwelt among their rocks and the terror of the eastern way.
In the Tale
Here, in the days of the Quest of Erebor, Tom, Bert and William the trolls captured the whole company, until Gandalf’s mimicry and the dawn turned them to stone; their cave yielded the swords Glamdring and Orcrist, and the road went on to the Last Homely House.
