The Brandywine Bridge
the great stone bridge over the Brandywine on the East Road
The Bridge
The Brandywine Bridge was the great stone span that carried the East Road across the Brandywine at the edge of the Buckland, old work of the long-forgotten road-makers, green-mossed and broad.
In the Tale
It was the western gate of the compact country: the Black Riders feared to cross its far side, and at the bridge the hobbits and their flight passed into the wider world, and the Rangers kept the watch nigh its stones.
