The Verse
The Ring-verse is the rhyme that tells of the making of the Rings and of the One that rules them: ‘Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die’ — and one for the Dark Lord upon his dark throne, in the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
The Fire
The Rhyme of the Rings was revealed when Gandalf cast it into the heart of the fire at the Council; the lines in the Black Tongue — Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul — were the burning spell of the One, and the more of the Elven-song was its echo throughout the age.
