Name and Office
Will Whitfoot was the Mayor of Michel Delving, the chief elected office of the Shire, for many years; in the time of the ruffians he was thrown into the Lockholes by the newcomers, and was released at the Scouring.
The Succession
After the war he was re-elected to the mayoralty, and at the New Year’s of the Fourth Age gave place at once to the hero Samwise Gamgee, who served as Mayor for seven terms; Whitfoot himself is remembered as the gentle mayor of the old days.
