Cirith Gorgor

the great pass of Mordor, where the Morannon was built

The Pass

Cirith Gorgor was the broad, dreadful pass in the north of Mordor, walled by the Ash Mountains and the Mountains of Shadow, through which only the roads of the Dark Land ran; at its mouth the Black Gate (the Morannon) was built, with the Towers of the Teeth holding watch over the desolate valley.

In the War

Through Cirith Gorgor issued the great armies of the war, and to its gate marched the Captains of the West in the last battle, where the hosts of the Shadow poured out to meet the few.
