the inland sea of Mordor and the lands of its shore
The Sea
Nurnen was the great inland sea of southern Mordor, around whose shores the slaves of Sauron laboured in the fields of Núrn to feed the armies of the Dark Land; its water was grey and mournful under the shadow of the mountains.
Its Fate
When the Dark Tower fell and the Shadow departed, the weary slaves were set free, and in the tales of the Fourth Age the lands of Núrn were remembered as the sad and toil-worn fields of the last dominion.
