The Land
The Sea of Rhûn was the great and far inland sea of the eastern lands, where the peoples of the East — the Easterlings and the coach-folk — dwelled about its shores; beyond it lay the unnamed lands of the farther east, and from its plains the horsemen and the war-wains of Sauron’s allies came west.
In the Wars
Its far shores were the gathering-place of the great armies of the East in the Third Age, and its name is never sung by the Men of Gondor without fear.
