The Wainriders were a confederacy of Easterling peoples who, in the middle years of the Third Age (the T.A. 1850s), swept with great wagons of war out of the Rhûn lands and pressed upon the borders of Gondor for many years.
The Wars
Their wars with Gondor and the Northmen were long and bitter — the burning of the plain, the triumphs and defeats of the two great battles — and their power was at last broken by the alliance of Gondor and the Éothéod in the year of the battle of the Camp, driving them back whence they had come.
