the city of the Gwaith-i-Mírdain in Eregion at the West-door of Khazad-dûm
The City
Ost-in-Edhil was the chief city of Eregion (Hollin), founded in the Second Age by the Elven-smiths under Celebrimbor, who drew the love of the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm and built the road between the two peoples.
The Rings
In its workshops the Rings of Power were devised and forged; after Sauron’s treachery was revealed the city would not yield, and in S.A. 1697 it was stormed and utterly destroyed, its survivors fled, and the site was desolate.
