Name and Craft

The Gwaith-i-Mírdain (‘the People of the Jewel-smiths’) were the Elven-smiths of Eregion, led by Celebrimbor, whose art was the wonder of the Second Age; in their workshops the Rings of Power were devised, and their friendship with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm linked the two peoples.

Their Fall

The deceits of Annatar and their own pride drew them to the making of the Rings; when the One Ring was forged and Sauron was unmasked, the smiths were destroyed in the War of the Elves and Sauron: Ost-in-Edhil was sacked, Celebrimbor was slain, and the jewel-smiths and their craft were ended.
