The Tree

The White Tree of Gondor was the token of the kingship: a young scion of Nimloth the White Tree of Númenor, which Isildur carried from the fallen island and whose line was planted in the courts of the Southern Kingdom. In the long years it withered under the Shadow and stood dead in the halls of Minas Tirith.

The Return

At the crowning of King Elessar (Aragorn) a sapling of the old tree was found upon the heights of Mindolluin, and it was planted in the court of the fountain — the White Tree bloomed again, and the Sign of the Kings was renewed for the Fourth Age.
