Wargs were wolves of evil, cruel and cunning, that ran with the goblins of the mountains; they might talk after the manner of beasts, and hunted together by night in great packs upon the eaves of the wild.
Attacks
In the Quest they fell upon the Company under the Misty Mountains (a rescue of the Eagles); in the War of the Ring Saruman sent warg-riders against the Rohirrim, and wolves ran with the armies of the Morannon.
