Mount Gundabad
the great northern stronghold of the North, fist-built of Orcs
The Hold
Mount Gundabad was the great northern peak of the Misty Mountains, in the elder legend said to be the place where Durin awoke the eldest of the Dwarves; in later days it became the strongest of the Orc-fortresses of the North, in whose deeps the goblin host of the mountains was born and bred.
In the Wars
From Gundabad the goblins came down upon the pass and into the wild for the Mischief of the Age — for the Battle of Five Armies its hosts marched through the under-way, and the Mountain in the Wars of the Ring was the muster of the Shadow’s vanguard.
