The Wall
The Rammas Echor was the great ring-wall of Gondor, running for leagues about the fields and villages of the Pelennor, built to keep the marauding and the raiders from the city; its gates were strong, and the watch at its towers was the first defence of the realm.
In the Siege
In the war the hosts of Mordor came from the east and broke through the gate of the Rammas and cast down its walls, so that the fields lay open to the devouring of the enemy up to the very gates of the city.
