Azog
the Orc-chieftain of Moria who slew Thrór
The Slaying
Azog was an Orc-chieftain who dwelt in the deeps about Moria after the fall of the Dwarves. When old King Thrór came in his despair to the gates, Azog took him and slew him, and in cruel mockery branded his name upon the body — a deed that roused the Dwarves to great wrath and the war of Azanulbizar.
His End
At the Battle of Azanulbizar (T.A. 2799), Azog was slain by Dáin Ironfoot with a great blow, and his head was set upon a stake — the vengeance of the Dwarves was grim, and the name of Azog passed into the annals of the Orcs as a boast and a curse.
