Thrór
the father of Thráin; the murdered King under the Mountain
Name and Reign
Thrór was King under the Mountain in the great days of Erebor, father of Thráin and grandfather of Thorin. When the dragon came and took the Mountain, Thrór was driven into exile, and in his despair he would at last venture back to the ancient dwarf-mines of Moria.
His Slaying
At the gate of the forsaken halls he was captured and slain by the Orcs, and his body was hacked by the goblin-chief Azog — a deed that roused the Dwarves to the great War of the Dwarves and Orcs, and from whose ruin the vengeance of the line of Durin was sworn.
