The oldest and greatest of the lines of the Dwarves: from Durin the Deathless, who awoke at the dawn, through the kings of Khazad-dûm and the exiles, to the return under the Mountain and the Elf-friend Gimli in the Fourth Age.

  • The line was held to ‘return’ in the person of Durin reborn in the need of his folk; its annals run from Khazad-dûm through the dragon-ruin to the restored Kingdom under the Mountain.
