Dáin
Dáin Ironfoot; the Lord of the Iron Hills; King under the Mountain
Name and Story
Dáin Ironfoot was the cousin of Thorin and the lord of the grim Dwarves of the Iron Hills. At Azanulbizar before the gates of Moria he slew the great Orc-chieftain, avenging his father, and his deed preserved the remnant of his people from destruction; his folk stayed east and grew strong.
The Quest
Summoned by the ravens of the Mountain at the siege of Erebor, he marched with all his army and came in the very hour when Elves and Men and Dwarves were hard pressed, and turned the Battle of Five Armies — the host of the goblins broke against his iron charge.
The War of the Ring
King under the Mountain in the later age, he withstood the assault upon Dale (where his heir was slain), and at the last marched to the Black Gate and fell in the Battle of the Morannon.
