Beorn
the skin-changer; the great man of the Vales of Anduin
Name and Nature
Beorn was a huge and fierce man who could take the shape of a great black bear; he kept himself to his wooden hall and his flower-gardens between the mountains and the river, befriending neither huntsmen nor wolves, and cursing the goblins who had slain his people.
The Quest
He sheltered the fourteen in the wild and supplied them ponies and honey, and heard their tale with growing anger at the goblins; at the Battle of Five Armies he came as a bear upon the rear of the goblin host and saved Thorin at the last, killing the Great Goblin himself.
After
He became prince of the Beornings who watched the High Pass, a warrior against the Orcs; his kindred held the west gate of Mirkwood in the War of the Ring.
