Eriador
the land between the Misty Mountains and the Sea; the region of the later North-kingdoms
Name and Position
Eriador is the broad land of north-west Middle-earth between the Misty Mountains and the seas of the West — the country of the old North-kingdom (Arnor), and in the late age of Bree and the Shire and the wandering of the Rangers. Its rivers and ruins (the Hoarwell, the Gwathló, the ruined towers) carry the memory of the Dúnedain of the earlier ages.
History
From the fall of Arnor the land lay open and mostly unpeopled except its small towns; in the War of the Ring it was crossed by the Ring-bearers on the roads to Rivendell, and its peace was sought at the last by the folk who came to the Grey Havens.
