Name and Kind

The Corsairs of Umbar were the great pirates of the South: the hard warriors of the haven of Umbar and the seaward coasts — many of the Black Númenórean line and the Haradrim — who for countless years harried Gondor with their black ships.

In the War of the Ring

When the war came, the Corsairs with their great fleets were to come upon Gondor from the river’s mouth; but Aragorn’s Grey Company, with the Dead Host, took their ships at the landing west of the Anduin, and the black sails were turned to the West, and the strength of the South went to the Pelennor in the aid of the king.
