The Family

The Baggins Family was one of the oldest and most respectable of the Shire — a numerous, rich and gentle kindred of hobbits whose name, said the tale, the richer Bagginses guarded from all gossip; it counted Bilbo and Frodo among its members, and its seat was the Hill at Hobbiton.

In the Tale

The name ‘Baggins’ itself was enough to set the whole of the Shire and the Black Riders on the trail of the Ring — and the family’s tale, from Bilbo’s unexpected journey to Frodo’s quest, is woven through all the later history.
